Antidiabetic potentials of Syzygium guineense methanol leaf extract

Abstract


This study examines the effects of a methanol extract of Syzygium guineense leaves in streptozotocin (STZ) - induced diabetes, evaluates its effect on alpha glucosidase and 2, 2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl radical. Diabetes was induced in rats by a single intraperitoneal injection of streptozotocin (60 mg/kg). An oral glucose tolerance test was performed after diabetes induction and repeated after 14 days of treatment with the extract.
