Dr. Vijayakumar Chinnathambi started his studies in Bachelor of Veterinary Science from Madras Veterinary College, completed his Master in Pharmacology then a PhD in Veterinary Pharmacology and Toxicology. He started his early carrier at Kemin Pharma, Belgium and continued with as Postdoctoral Fellow, Center for Women's Health Research, School of Medicine, Meharry Medical College, Nashville, USA. Further he got engraved with Postdoctoral Associate in Division of Cardiovascular Physiology and Perinatal Biology, University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB), Texas, USA where his contribution was enormous in research almost in 4 years’ at USA. Then started as an Assistant Professor in Department of Veterinary Pharmacology and Toxicology is continuing his research and teaching till date at Tamil Nadu Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, India.                      

He had a broad background and has intensively trained himself and in reproductive biology, cardiovascular physiology, regulatory mechanism in fetal growth to specifically understand the physiological and pathophysiological mechanisms that modulate blood pressure during pregnancy and to analyse the fetal origins of adult metabolic disorders. He expert in key research areas and used fine vessel wire myography for vascular reactivity studies, blood pressure monitoring using invasive and non-invasive methods, histopathology, electron microscope imaging of arterial blood flow and molecular studies including real-time PCR and various immunofluorescent studies. For his breakthrough, his Excellence in research is well demonstrated through the exhilatory awards he was honoured with such as, Presidents Pfizer Award (USA) and University Gold medal (India).

In his exposure to western research he also in due course handled and successfully completed various National Institute of Health, USA sponsored projects as a Co Investigator (1). R03 HD069750, 2011/07/25–2014/06/30 funded by National Institute of Child Health and Human Development; 2). R01 HL102866, 12/01/2010–11/30/2014 funded by National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute - National Institute of Health. 3) R01 HL119869, 2013/08/09–2019/05/31 funded by National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute - National Institute of Health; 4) Co Investigator - R21DK076704, 2008/04/01-2012/12/31, funded by National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney - National Institute of Health, USA. Beyond this he completed several projects in India funded by NABARD, World Bank and Government of Tamil Nadu as Principal Investigator / Coordinator.

He published numerous research papers in national and International Journals of high impact inclusive of five papers in Hypertension (IF=7.13), four papers in Biology of Reproduction (IF=4.28), two papers in Endocrinology (IF=4.9), One paper each in American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology (IF=9.8), American Journal of Physiology-Gastrointestinal and Liver Physiology (IF=4.87), Reproductive Biology and Endocrinology (IF=4.4) and Phytotherapy Research (IF=6.34). Above and further than he attended and presented scientific papers in many national and international conferences and seminars.
