Abstract

Objective: Present study was designed to screen the antiepileptic property of aqueous extract of Madhucalongifolia (AqML) in laboratory animals. Materials and methods: Rat and mice were divided in different groups. Antiepileptic activity was tested by using maximal electric shock (MES), Pentylenetertrazole (PTZ) and lithium pilocarpine (Li-Pilocarpine) models. Treatment group of animals were received AqML at 100, 200 and 400 mg/kg p.o. for 7 days. At the end of treatment period, different parameters related of antiepileptic action were observed. Result: Preliminary phytochemical investigation revealed the presence of carbohydrate, protein, amino acid and alkaloids. Animals treatment with AqML showed significant (p
